Description

Experience the perfect marriage of sweet orchard apples and tart, vibrant cranberries in this comforting Apple Cranberry Crumble Pie. This dessert features tender fruit tossed in warm autumn spices cradled in a buttery, flaky pie crust, and topped with a rustic brown sugar and rolled oat crumble that bakes to a caramelized, golden crunch. It is an approachable, sophisticated dessert that brings the nostalgic scent of cinnamon to your kitchen, making it the ideal centerpiece for holiday gatherings or quiet rainy afternoons.

Ingredients

Scale

1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)
6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the apple slices and cranberries with granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges.
Pour the fruit mixture evenly into the prepared crust.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and rolled oats.
Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the fruit filling.
Brush the crust edges with the egg wash.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

To prevent the crust edges from browning too quickly, use a pie shield or lightly cover with aluminum foil. This pie is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
