Description

Indulge in a soul-warming Caramel Apple Pie, featuring a crisp, buttery double-crust filled with tart, tender apples and luscious ribbons of caramel sauce. This elevated American classic is spiced with cinnamon and cloves, creating an unforgettable aromatic experience. Perfect for cozy autumn days or holiday gatherings, the pie delivers a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. Its rustic charm and deep, syrupy filling make it a must-have centerpiece that invites everyone to the table, creating cherished memories with every delicious, golden-baked slice.

Ingredients

Scale

1 double pie crust (chilled)
6–7 large Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch pieces
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 cup caramel sauce (non-alcoholic, dairy-based)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cloves until evenly coated.
Roll out half of the pie dough and place it into a 9-inch pie dish.
Pour the apple mixture into the crust, mounding it slightly in the center.
Drizzle the caramel sauce generously over the top of the apples.
Roll out the second piece of dough and place it over the apples, crimping the edges to seal.
Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Brush the top crust with a lightly beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling through the vents.
Allow the pie to cool completely on a wire rack for at least 3 hours to ensure the caramel filling sets properly.

Notes

Use a mix of apples for better texture; Granny Smith provides tartness while Honeycrisp offers sweetness and structure. Ensure your caramel sauce is thick enough; if using homemade, let it cool partially before drizzling. Cooling the pie fully is crucial for getting clean slices.
