Description

Indulge in these luxurious Caramel Apple Rolls, featuring a soft, pillowy yeast-leavened dough wrapped around a generous filling of spiced, caramelized apples. These rolls elevate the classic cinnamon bun by incorporating fresh Granny Smith apples and a rich, molten glaze, creating the perfect balance of tart fruit and deep sugar sweetness. A grounding, cozy bake that transforms simple pantry staples into a sophisticated, soul-warming treat perfect for weekend brunches or a slow, comforting morning experience.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup whole milk (warmed to 110F-115F)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons instant yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and 1/4-inch cubed
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2/3 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Pinch of salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

In a large bowl, whisk together the warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
Stir in the melted butter and egg.
Gradually add 3 1/4 cups flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic; place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
For the filling, toss the cubed apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons flour, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border.
Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 1-inch thick slices.
Place slices in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350F and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure your milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast. Use a firm variety of apple like Granny Smith to prevent the filling from becoming too mushy. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat slightly before serving.
