Ingredients
4 medium-large ripe pears, peeled and sliced
3 medium-large apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, sliced apples, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg; toss until evenly coated.
Transfer the fruit mixture into a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, mix together the rolled oats, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup brown sugar for the topping.
Cut the softened butter into the dry topping mixture using your hands or a pastry cutter until the consistency is crumbly and wet sand-like.
Evenly distribute the topping over the fruit layer.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or microwave.
