Ingredients
4 cups thinly sliced pears (peeled and cored)
0.5 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cornstarch
0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
0.25 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1.5 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1.5 cups all-purpose flour
0.5 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, toss the sliced pears with granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, and baking powder.
Cut the softened butter into the dry mixture until it forms a coarse, crumbly dough.
Press two-thirds of the crumble mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Spread the pear mixture evenly over the base.
Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the top of the pears.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
Ensure you let the bars cool completely before slicing to allow the fruit juices to set properly. You can store these in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For a crunchier texture, feel free to add half a cup of chopped walnuts to the topping.
