Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a square baking pan.
In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter together to create the filling and spread over the dough base.
Drop small spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the filling.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Whisk the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk together until smooth.
Drizzle the glaze over the bars while they are still warm.
Notes
You can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the cinnamon filling for extra crunch. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep the cream cheese frosting fresh.
