Ingredients
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cubed)
4–6 tablespoons cold water
5 large Granny Smith apples (peeled and sliced)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for crumble)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and 1 teaspoon sugar; cut in cold butter until crumbs form. Add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time until dough holds together, then chill for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Roll out dough and press into a 9-inch pie dish.
In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon; place into the prepared crust.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, softened butter, and walnuts until crumbly.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples.
Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Ensure the butter for the crust is very cold to achieve a flaky texture. You can serve this warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
