Description
A comforting dessert blending tender peaches, spiced bread, and a luscious brown sugar sauce. Perfect for cozy meals or summer gatherings, this rustic treat delivers warmth and nostalgia in every bite.
Ingredients
10 cups cubed day-old bread (brioche or buns preferred)
4 medium ripe peaches (peeled, pitted, and diced)
4 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup brown sugar (divided)
1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1/4 cup water (for sauce)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix bread cubes with 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Add peaches and gently toss.
In another bowl, whisk eggs until frothy. Stir in milk, cream, melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
Pour custard over the bread and peach mixture. Let soak 10–15 minutes, pressing down gently.
Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and custard is set.
Meanwhile, make the sauce: In a skillet, melt butter, add 3/4 cup brown sugar, flour, and water. Simmer 5 minutes until thickened.
Pour sauce over the warm pudding before serving.
Notes
Use overripe peaches for maximum sweetness.
Substitute 1/2 tsp almond extract for vanilla if desired.
Chill leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days (reheat with a drizzle of sauce).
