Ingredients
325g ready-made puff pastry, chilled
100g premium dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tbsp high-quality custard powder
1 large egg, beaten
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Prepare the custard according to the package instructions using the 3 tbsp of custard powder.
Roll out the puff pastry into a thin rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
Spread the prepared custard evenly over one-half of the pastry sheet.
Sprinkle the dark chocolate chips generously over the custard layer.
Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and press the edges gently to seal.
Cut the pastry into uniform strips, approximately 2cm wide.
Carefully twist each strip 3-4 times and place them on the prepared baking tray.
Brush the top of each twist with the beaten egg to ensure a signature golden shine.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
Notes
Ensure your puff pastry remains chilled until the moment you are ready to use it, as this helps create the perfect flaky layers. You can substitute custard powder with a thick, prepared vanilla pastry cream for a richer flavor profile. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, though they are best enjoyed warm from the oven.
