Description

This Spiced Pear Berry Crumble is a soul-warming autumn-inspired dessert featuring a rustic fruit base of juicy pears and tart blackberries topped with a buttery, cinnamon-spiced crust. It is a humble, forgiving recipe that delivers deep, aromatic flavors of ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom, making it the perfect comfort food to enjoy with loved ones on a cozy, quiet evening at home.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
5 cups fresh pears, peeled and chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
2 cups fresh blackberries, halved if large
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour for the fruit filling
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
Pour the melted butter into the dry topping ingredients and stir with a fork until a crumbly mixture forms.
In a large bowl, combine the chopped pears and blackberries.
Add the granulated sugar, flour, ground ginger, and cardamom to the fruit and toss until evenly coated.
Transfer the fruit mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use firm, slightly under-ripe pears like Bosc or Anjou for the best texture. If the topping browns too quickly, cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil for the final 10 minutes of baking. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
