Description

This comforting cranberry apple crisp captures the essence of autumn in every spoonful. It features a tart, jammy filling made from fresh Honeycrisp apples and vibrant cranberries, topped with a rustic, buttery oat crumble. Perfectly balanced, this dessert provides a delightful contrast between soft, spiced fruit and a crunchy topping, making it an ideal treat for holidays or quiet weeknight gatherings. Simple to prepare and deeply soul-warming, this recipe is a timeless classic that brings warmth to any table.

Ingredients

Scale

5 cups Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples, cranberries, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon until well coated.
Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and salt.
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit layer.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
