Description

These easy Apple Pie Bars feature a buttery crumb crust layered with warmly spiced apples and topped with a golden crumble for the perfect cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.

4. Press two-thirds of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

5. Bake the crust for 15 minutes until lightly set.

6. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.

7. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked crust.

8. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apple filling.

9. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

10. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing.

11. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving if desired.

Notes

Use a combination of apple varieties for the best flavor and texture.

Keep the butter cold for a crisp and crumbly topping.

Allow the bars to cool fully before cutting to help them hold their shape.

These bars freeze well when layered with parchment paper between slices.
